Hello Mighty Fans!
Long time no see, but after working hard on finishing Issue #2 of Blackbird I thought I should provide an update.
But first a little bit of housecleaning, Issue #1 is completed with in regards to the art and colouring stages and I am (very slowly) lettering the pages. I’ve been slow with the lettering due to a few reasons, the main one is the fact I’ve been busy drawing Issue #2 but also the fact I want to know what happens in the story definitively rather than what I have in my outlines to write the dialogue, meaning I can foreshadow future events that happen later in the issue or the next and possibly create better jokes as I can set them up earlier knowing where the punchline could go for example. This also means that I’m not locking myself into any corners if for some reason I go in a different direction with the story.
NOW FOR THE REAL UPDATE!!

With Issue #2 done and taking a week off before I start the next, I thought I should provide some insight into what the future of this story and world is going to look like, that’s why I’m teasing what is in store with some of these other covers I’ve made for the upcoming Issues. Now I’m not going to get carried away and tell you what the synopses for the Issues after the conclusion to the initial arc but seeming as I haven’t exactly revealed the synopsis for Cold Iron…
COLD IRON.
SHE’S A MAGNET FOR TROUBLE. CAN SHE SURVIVE IT ALL?
Kaitlyn Byrd AKA Blackbird is one of the many vigilantes protecting the streets of IRON CITY and She has been investigating a string of murders. But after stopping an assassination attempt on the Mayor and evading AVU Officers Ryan Grayson and Gina Wilson, Blackbird is forced to track down the assassin to find out who wants the Mayor dead, leading her down the path to the city’s cold cold heart. But will what she discovers help or leave the city worse than before?
Yeah, I think that works well enough. I have also been thinking about a synopsis for the series as a whole but that’s surprisingly a lot harder to come up with than just a specific story synopsis, so give me some time and hopefully I would have one in the future.
As for a release date, this is harder still to pinpoint, see the thing is I’m trying to avoid burnout (which I think is an impossible task but so is rolling a boulder up a hill and yet here I am), so I would at least like to get ahead before rushing to release Issue #1 and give myself unnecessary pressure of making the comics in a certain time frame, even if that pressure is entirely just my own mind as this being an indie comic no one is holding me accountable to release these monthly. Which that is the goal for these to come out monthly, so in order to achieve my goal of an monthly ongoing that I would like Blackbird to be, I need to be prepared of burn out. A comic so far for me to make based off these first two issues is about 3 or so months, this is due to balancing making comics with work and social life (and also a healthy amount of procrastination) or the simple lack of motivation on a particular day. So basically when it’s ready.
Oh and as for the clock on each of the covers… Let’s just hope I don’t crash in time to tell that story, I think that one will be a whole other level.
Thanks for reading, Mighty Fans!
Sighing off, Tristan J. Evans
